The skeletal system Flashcards
how many bones does the human skeleton have?
206
what are the two different types of tissue bones are made from?
(Give the purposes)
Outer layer - made from a really strong and hard tissue that cannot bend.
Inner layer - made from a spongy tissue but still strong.
What are the 4 main functions for the skeleton?
Protection, support, movement and production of blood cells
what does the skeleton protect
Organs
What does the skeleton support?
All the soft tissues are supported as well as providing a rigid frame for the rest of the body.
What does the bone marrow do?
It produces red blood cells (carry oxygen around the body) and white blood cells (help protect the body from infections).
How does the skeleton help with the movement of the body?
Muscles are attached to bones so when the muscle moves it allows the skeleton to also move. Joints help the skeleton move.
Write the bones shown in the diagram.
Femur, Fibula, tibia, radius, humerus, ulna, mandible, cranium, sternum, clavicle, backbone, Tarsals, metatarsals, Phalanges, coccyx, carpals, rib, Phalanges (fingers), Metacarpals, patella
