More particle theory Flashcards
How can you increase pressure
By increasing temperature or reducing the volume
What happens when temperature increases
When you increase temperature it makes the particles move faster and volume stays the same
It has two effects:
- Hit the wall harder
- They hit more often
Both increase pressure
What happens when you reduce the volume?
Reducing the volume increases pressure
because particles are squashed up into a smaller space so they’ll hit the wall more often
How do particles spread out?
By diffusion
How does a smell diffuse through a room
The smell of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
Why does the smell diffuses slowly
The smell diffuses slowly because of particles bumping into air particles which stops them from making a forward progress and often sends them in a completely different direction
