The muscular system CH 3 Flashcards
Ambulation
Muscle movement- walking, running, or otherwise moving from one place to another
muscle fibers
Specialized long slender cells who’s predominant function is contractibility
My/o, Myos/o
Muscle
Fibr/o, fibros/o
Fibrous tissue
Skeletal muscle
Striated voluntary (muscles you can control) they attach bones to to the body and make motion possible
Striated
Lines in the muscle
Rhabdomy/o
Striated muscle
Smooth muscle
Nonstriated (also called unstriated) Involuntary visceral. They produce slow contractions to allow unconscious functioning of internal organs
Leiomy/o
Smooth muscle
Cardiac muscle
striated involuntary. Involuntary contraction of the heart muscle
Fascia
A sheet of fibrous connective tissue that covers, supports, and separates muscles.
Tendon
A narrow band of connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone (Remember to make distinction between tendon and ligament)
Linea Alba
A fibrous band of connective tissue on the ventral abdominal wall that is the median attachment of the abdominal muscles
Aponeurosis (Plural form Aponeuroses)
A fibrous sheet that provides attachments to muscular fibers and is a means of origin or insertion of a flat muscle
Aponeur/o
Means aponeurosis
