The Body Cavity
A hole or hollow space in the body that contains and protects internal organs.
The Cranial Cavity
The hollow space that contains the brain in the skull
The Spinal Cavity
The hollow space that contains the spinal cord within the spinal column.
The Thoracic Cavity (Chest Cavity)
The hollow space that contains the hearts and lungs within the ribs between the neck and diaphragm.
The Abdominal Cavity
The hollow space that contains the major organs of digestion located between the diaphragm and pelvic bone.
Peritoneal Cavity
The hollow space within the abdominal cavity between the parietal peritoneum and the visceral peritoneum. Referred to as abdominal cavity but not quite as accurate
The Pelvic Cavity
The hollow space that contains the reproductive ad some excretory systems’ (urinary bladder and rectum) organs bounded by the pelvic bones.
