Adduction
Movement toward the midline
Abduction
Movement away from the midline
Flexion
Closure of a joint angle, or reduction of the angle between two bones (Contracting the biceps involves flexing the elbow)
Extension
Straightening the joint angle or an increase in the angle between two bones (extend your hand for a hand shake)
Hyperflexion
Occurs when a joint is flexed or extended too far. The palmar or plantar movement of the joint angles.
Hypertension
Occurs when a joint is flexed or extended too far. The dorsal movement of the joints beyond the reference angle.
Supination (soo-pih-na-shuhn)
The act of rotating the limb or body part so that the palmar surface is turned upward
Pronation
The act of rotating the limb or body part so that the palmar surface is turned downward
Rotation
Movement that means circular movement around the axis
