Test 12 - Created July 6 Flashcards
criteria for schizoaffective disorder
- major depressive or manic episode concurrent with sxs of schizophrenia
- lifetime h/o delusion or hallucinations >2w in absence of depr/mania
- prominent mood (depr/mania) episodes
- subtypes = depressive versus bipolar, based on sxs
MDD or bipolar disorder with psychotic features versus schizoaffective disorder
- MDD or bipolar with psychotic features: psychotic sxs occur ONLY with mood episodes
- Schizoaffective: occur with or without mood episodes
schizophrenia versus schizoaffective
schizoaffective has mood sxs
what funnel plot helps with
assessing publication bias; should be symmetric if bias not there
tx for Asx LV systolic dysfn
ACE-i first, then later BB
sensitivity equation
A/(A+C)
specificity equation
D/(D+B)
order in which do 2 tests, based on sensitivity or specificity
screen with highly sensitive test; confirm with highly specific test
what to do with distraught family in ICU
defuse the situation, acknowledge their distress, explain the patient’s course and treatment plan
why breast milk jaundice occurs
high beta-glucuronidase activity in the milk deconjugates bilirubin in intestine and allows it to be reabsorbed and recirculated
why breastfeeding jaundice occurs
lactation failure from poor milk supply, poor latch, or infrequent feeding; decr. bilirubin elimination and incr. intestinal absorption
post-test odds equation
(pre-test odds) x (likelihood ratio)
pathophys of TSS
widespread activation of T cells by exotoxins acting as superantigens, leading to huge release of cytokines
tx of TSS
IVF + clindamycin +/- vanc or nafcillin
early localized lyme disease (days to 1 month)
erythema migrans, fatigue, HA’s, myalgias, arthralgias
