Why in news?
Taliban ( meaning group of (islamic) students ) is a terrorist organization that seized control of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan headed by President Ashraf Ghani officially on 16 August 2021 .
History of Afghanistan 🇦🇫
Afghanistan,officially theIslamic Emirate of Afghanistan,is a landlocked country located at the crossroads ofCentralandSouth Asia.
It is know as HEART OF ASIA .
Last king of Afghanistan , Zahir shah, ruled under a monarchy , until he was officially overthrown by a coup d’etat by royal army on 17 July 1973.
Hence, republic of Afghanistan was established.

Internal struggle continued until 1979 , when soviet army invaded Afghanistan under the pretext of soviet Afghanistan
friendship treaty 1978.
Military control of Afghanistan by soviet troops continued till 1989 after which withdrawal of troops took place . Najbullah government formed in the aftermath stayed till 1994 .
Rise of Taliban
Taliban was a terrorist group which was the initiative of Pakistan and United States to overthrow soviet backed government of Afghanistan.
The Taliban emerged in 1994 as one of the prominent factions in theAfghan Civil War .
Under the leadership ofMohammed Omar Mujahid(r.1996–2001), the movement spread throughout most of Afghanistan.In 1996, the group administered roughly three-quarters of the country, and established theFirst Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, with the Afghan capital transferred toKandaharfromKabul.The Taliban held control of most of the country until being overthrown after theUnited Statesinvasion of Afghanistanin December 2001.
Subsequently, the Taliban launched aninsurgencyto fight the United States–backedKarzai administrationand theNATO–ledInternational Security Assistance Force(ISAF) in theWar in Afghanistan.
Thus started the one of the most expensive US Afghanistan war .
India’s projects
Three major projects: the Afghan Parliament, the Zaranj-Delaram Highway, and the Afghanistan-India Friendship Dam(Salma Dam), along with India’s assistance of more than USD3 billion in projects, hundreds of small development projects (of schools, hospitals and water projects) have cemented India’s position in Afghanistan.
