Mangarh hillock in brief

A

The Mangarh Hills are part of the Aravali Range situated on the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Precisely , the hills fall under Banaswara village of Gujrat.
They are known for the memorial site of the Mangarh Massacre.

The Mangarh massacre or Adivasi Jallianwala, occurred on 17 November 1913, when a large force consisting of detachments of Imperial Service Troops and the Mewar Bhil Corps opened fire on a gathering of local Bhils in the Mangarh Hills on the border of Rajasthan and Gujarat after they refused to disperse, in which 1,000 to 1,500 tribals were killed.
Govind Guru was leading the meeting.

A

A team from National Monuments Authority lead by Shri Tarun Vijay, Chairman, National Monuments Authority, submitted a report on declaring Mangarh hillock in Rajasthan as a monument of National Importance in the year of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This report carries relevant details about the Mangarh hillock and recommendations by National Monuments Authority.

NATIONAL MONUMENT AUTHORITY

A

National Monuments Authority (NMA) under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India has been setup as per provisions of The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains AMASR (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010 which was enacted in March, 2010.

Several functions have been assigned to the NMA for the protection and preservation of monuments and sites through management of the prohibited and regulated area around the centrally protected monuments.
One amongst these responsibilities of NMA is also to consider grant of permissions to applicants for construction related activity in the prohibited and regulated area.

WHAT IS A MONUMENT OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE

A

A “Monument of National Importance” is designated by the Archaeological Survey of India
The union government of India is authorised to maintain, protect and promote the Monuments of National Importance.

Uttar Pradesh boasts of its highest place in the tally of such monuments with 741 registered sites.

ASI

A

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is an Indian government agency that is responsible for archaeological research and the conservation and preservation of cultural historical monuments in the country.

It was founded in 1861 by Alexander Cunningham who also became its first Director-General.
