Masuhara (2004) the adaptation of a material involves changing existing materials in some form so that they become suitable for specific purposes.
Process to use a book
- Choose unit and decide if we need to change something
- Plan the changes and check if it is appropriate to the Legislative Framework
- Teach the unit using textbook as a basis and adding other materials
Disadvantages of authentic materials
Can be difficult
Extension can be inappropriate
Variety of language
Advantages of adapted materials
Adapt to students level
Increase motivation since they gain self-confidence

Useful to isolate certain language aspect
