What is the purpose of SWEEP TRAINS
To ensure the likelihood of a collision with an object on the tracks to be eliminated or reduced by actively searching for hazards on the tracks
Why is a PSA required to stand while at leading EDP?
To get a full unobstructed view of the tracks
What is the speed you can do in the following when on a SWEEP TRAIN:
- AUTO/ATPM
- E/S AND PUSH MODE
- 30KPH
- 20KPH
Name occasions when a SWEEP TRAIN is used
- When a section of the track hasn’t been used in 2 hours
- Following a loss of power or reports of trains striking an object
- First train at the start of the service
- Into Headshunts and sidings
- Into unused platforms and terminals
DESCRIBE THE SWEEP TRAIN PROCEDURE
- CCC will give you start point and termination point for move
- Required to stand at Leading EDP, remain alert, observe tracks and prepare to stop short of an obstructions
- If you see an object that could cause collision stop the train, contact CCC using EMERGENCY BUTTON and say a) who you are, b) where you are c) what is the obstruction d) what you require
- On completion of sweep, contact CCC and log in notebook
If on SDO route when on a SWEEP TRAIN, what should you check?
First and last set of doors do not open
When you’re on a SWEEP TRAIN due UNAUTHORISED PERSON ON TRACKS, what speed should you do?

If you see an UNAUTHORISED PERSON DURING THE SWEEP, what should you do?
- STOP THE TRAIN IMMEDIATELY
- CONTACT CCC ON EMERGENCY CHANNEL
- STATE WHO YOU ARE (RUN NUMBER), WHERE YOU ARE (LOCATION AND DIRECTION OF TRAVEL)
- STATE HOW MANY PEOPLE
- GIVE BRIEF DESCRIPTION
