What is the purpose of a Train Dispatch Corridor?
To identify the area to be checked during the train dispatch
Tell me the elements that make up a Train Dispatch Corridor?
- 0.88m from the train body
- The gap between the platform and the train
- The full length of the train
- At least the height of the doors
How should you monitor the platform from Leading EDP?
- Observe the platform as you approaching the station
- Once docked, monitor the TDC continually using mirrors or monitors (Z- scan)
- Once RTD, check all doors from top to bottom and TDC
- Make announcements for people to stand clear and when safe close the doors
What are the purpose of TRAIN SAFETY CHECKS?
The final check carried out before pressing CTD at the DCP or START train at leading EDP
What are 5 things you MUST consider when doing TRAIN SAFETY CHECKS?
- All doors are closed
- Nobody is trapped in the doors e.g. clothing
- Nothing is trapped on or touching the outside of the train
- There are no risks on the platform that could affect the safe the departure of the train
- It is safe to depart the train
What are 3 you take into account when a passenger is in the train the dispatch corridor?
- Proximity and behaviour when close to the train prior to dispatch
- The demographic of the passenger
- Vulnerable persons (including under the influence)
Name 4 other behaviours you would consider when carrying out a train safety checks
- People running towards the train
- People running along the edge of the platform
- Trying to open the doors when already closed
- Standing very close to the platform edge
What should you do if you see anybody within or enter the TDC that may pose a risk to safe dispatch?
- STOP IMMEDIATELY
- Restart when safe
- You must do FULL TRAIN SAFETY checks must be completed before train dispatched
EXPLAIN A DOOR PROCEDURE AT DCP IN AUTO
- When at a station, open passenger door and energise DCP
- Monitor TDC continually, observing passengers
- Once RTD received, visually check full length of the platform
- Visually check inside the train for passenger alighting
- Make announcements asking customers to stand clear of doors
- When Safe to do so, press COD, observing all doors close correctly
- Once doors closed carry out TRAIN SAFETY CHECKS
- When safe to do so, press CTD
- Once PSA door closed, check ADC illuminated
- Turn key to “N” position
- As train moves off, hold key in N for 10 seconds
- If Passenger alarm is sounded within 10 seconds, STOP THE TRAIN
STATE REASONS WHY YOU WOULD PERFORM LEADING EDP OPERATION
- Operational restrictions
- Passenger loadings
- Observing the tracks for safety reasons
EXPLAIN LEADING EDP OPERATION DUE TO PASSENGER LOADINGS
- Remove keys from LOCAL and close EDP cover
- Go to nearest DCP to get a full view of the platform
- Carry out full door procedure from DCP
- Return to leading EDP on completion of door procedure
- This includes the 10 seconds
EXPLAIN COMPULSORY LEADING EDP OPERATION
- Remove keys from Local and close EDP cover
- Go to the nearest DCP to get full view of the platform
- Carry full door procedure at DCP
- Apply INHIBIT at DCP
- Open EDP cover and select LOCAL
- Recheck the TDC to ensure it is safe to depart
- When safe to do so clear INHIBIT at EDP
