COUPLING AND UNCOUPLING Flashcards
NAME COUPLER COMPONENTS OF A B92
- Electrical coupler
- Mechanical coupler
- Air Transfer Valve
- Locating Block
- Racking Bar
- Coupler Isolation Cock
What additional components does the B2007 have?
- Friends and Foe Sensor
- Coupler Head Isolation Clock
What is the purpose of the Electrical Coupler?
Transfer electrical circuits and information between vehicles
What is the purpose of the mechanical coupler?
Physically holds vehicles together
What is the purpose of the Air Transfer Valve?
Transfer Air pressure between vehicles
What are the purpose of Locating block and Racking Bar?
Used to rack the coupler head back for mechanical purposes
What is the purpose of the Coupler Isolation Cock?
Cuts off air supply during coupling by preventing air passing through ATV
What is the purpose of the Self Centering Device?
It allows the manual alignment of couplers on bends and prevents coupler from striking objects
What is the purpose of Friends and Foe Sensor?
It detects mechanical coupling to B92/B2007 and prohibits electrical coupling to B92
Where is the CHIC located? What position must it be default?
- Below the valve’s assembly
- Must be horizontal
WHAT ARE THE 3-METER COUPLER CHECKS THAT YOU MUST CARRY OUT?
- Electrical couplers positioned correctly
- ATV free from obstructions, in good condition, with the rubber gronmet present
- Coupler Assembly must align for the coupling process
4A. CIC Must be in correct position for the type of coupling
4B. on B2007, CHIC must be in the correction position for type of coupling
WHAT ARE THE 3-METER TRAIN CHECKS?
- No targets attached
- No obstructions/scotches under wheels
- No external equipment covers missing
WHAT ARE RED TRAIN CHECKS?
- Red skirts are secured
- Red Brake indicators are not showing green
- Red Tail lights are on
Explain the Electrical Coupling Procedure?
- Collect details from Control. Log and Repeat
- In E/S, stop at 3m and carry out coupler/vehicle checks. Advise controller of any issues
- Stop at 1m and check coupler alignment (open end doors)
- Couple vehicles correctly at no more than 3kph
- Check Tail, Head and E/S lamps at couple end have extinguished
- Check AIR PRESSURE LAMP has illuminated
- Clear INHIBIT and observe it is cleared in other carriage
- Clear electrical coupling by reversing slightly
- Update notebook and advise control
EXPLAIN MECHANICAL COUPLING PROCEDURE
- Collect details from Control. Log and Repeat
- In E/S, stop at 3m and carry out coupler/vehicle checks. Advise controller of any issues
- Stop at 1m and check coupler alignment (open end doors)
- Couple vehicles correctly at no more than 3kph
- CLEAR INHIBIT - inhibit may not clear in the other coupled vehicle
- Confirm mechanical coupling by reversing (vehicle won’t move, but resistance felt)
- Update notebook and advise control after successful procedure
