Q

Explain the Electrical Coupling Procedure?

A
  1. Collect details from Control. Log and Repeat
  2. In E/S, stop at 3m and carry out coupler/vehicle checks. Advise controller of any issues
  3. Stop at 1m and check coupler alignment (open end doors)
  4. Couple vehicles correctly at no more than 3kph
  5. Check Tail, Head and E/S lamps at couple end have extinguished
  6. Check AIR PRESSURE LAMP has illuminated
  7. Clear INHIBIT and observe it is cleared in other carriage
  8. Clear electrical coupling by reversing slightly
  9. Update notebook and advise control

EXPLAIN MECHANICAL COUPLING PROCEDURE

A
  5. CLEAR INHIBIT - inhibit may not clear in the other coupled vehicle
  6. Confirm mechanical coupling by reversing (vehicle won’t move, but resistance felt)
  7. Update notebook and advise control after successful procedure

Q

Explain the UNCOUPLING PROCEDURE?

A
  1. The controller will advise about the location and the vehicles. Log and repeat
  2. Ensure enough space around vehicle to carry out uncouple move, no personnel around the vehicle
  3. Board the vehicle and select E/S at the coupled end
  4. In E/S depress uncouple and listen for ‘clunk’ and observe Tail, Head and E/S lamps at coupled end have illuminated
  5. Reverse checking vehicles comes apart
  6. Board other vehicle, select E/S, press UNCOUPLE and ensure INHIBIT releases
  7. Update notebook and advise control
