Soc9-long Term Effects Exercise Flashcards
What is Adaptation?
Your body’s response to training and how your body changes to cope with new activity
What is aerobic?
Working at a moderate level with oxygen.
What is anaerobic
Working at high intensity without oxygen.
What are Alveoli?
Tiny sacks within our lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and blood stream
What is the diaphram?
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration or inhalation.
What is cardiac output?
The amount of blood ejected from your heart in 1 min (CO)=(CV)X(HR)
What is stroke volume?
The amount of blood pumped by your heart per beat
What is the recovery rate?
The speed at which your heart turns to RHR after you exercise.
What are the long term effects of exercise on the musculo-skeletal system?
- increased strength in ligaments and tendons.
- increased bone density(helps prevent osteoprosis)
- muscular hypertrophy
- adaptation
What are the long term effects of exercise on the cardio respiratory system(heart)?
- increased size and strenght of heart
- decrease in resting heart rate
- faster recovery rate
- increased resting and working stroke volume
- increase max cardiac output.
What is developing the heart called?
Cardiac hypertrophy
What are Capillaries?
- Take oxygenated blood from arteries to tissues
- take deoxygenated blood from tissues back to the veins
Helps your blood vessles to become more elastic, flexible and efficient.
What is max cardiac output?
The amount of blood ejected by your heart in 1 min
What are the long term effects of exercise on the cardio respiratory system(blood)?
- increased number of red blood cells
- drop in resting blood pressure
- increased number of capillaries
What are the long term effects of exercise on the respiratory system?
- increased lung capacity/volume and vital capacity.
- increased number of aveoli
- increased strength of the diaphram and external intercostal muscles
What does anaerobic training increase?
The ability to move in quick birst:
-could apply to sprinting for the ball in football or a powerful tackle in rugby
What does aerobic training increase?
Cardiovascular fitness esspecially towards the end of a game.
- decreased RHR
- increased strength in bones.
What are the benifits of long term exercise?
- musco-skeletal system
- cardio respiratory system
- performace
What do ligaments attach?
Bone to bone
What do tendons attach?
Muscle to bone
How does long term exercise increase bone density?
By continiously weight-bearing on the floor(running) your bones are put under stress
-in response more cells that build new bone.-making them stronger and denser.
What does increased bone density help to prevent?
Osteoporosis
What does long term exercise do to capillaries?
Increases the number of them
What is the equation for cardiac out put?
Heart rate x stroke volume
What does the cardiorespiratory system consist of?
- heart
- blood vessels
Long term eefect of exercise on respiratory system?
Increased number of alveoli
