Soc 18: Aerobic and anaerobic exercise Flashcards
What is glucose?
A mjor source of energy for most cells in the body
What is Aerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose WITH oxygen
What is anerobic respiration
The process of releasing energy from glucose WITHOUT oxygen
What is cramp?
Painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle-usually caused by fatique
What is aerobic exericse?
Working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a long continuous peroid, e.g long distance
What is lactic acid?
A colourless acid produced in muscle tissue during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity
What is glucose stored as and where
Glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver
Where does aerobic respiration occur?
In the muscles
What happens to the waste products
They are absorbed by the blood and taken away
