What is an open skill? Def
It is when the situation is always changing. The player has to continually adapt to the enviroment
What is a closed skill? Def
A skill that takes place in a stable, predictable enviroment
What is a basic skill?
A skill that the player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
What is a complex skill?
A skill that needs the player’s complete attention and concentration as it is technically difficult to perform
What is a low organisation skill?
A skill that involves simple phases or parts(a free throw in basketball)
What is a high organisation skill?
A skill that has a lot of complicated phases or parts(e.g a summersault)
Why are practise structures important?
Practice sessions need to be planned according to the activity
-the practice also
Why is goal setting(smart goals) important?(5 reasons)
- helping you focus on what is important
- increasing your motivation to make progress
- helping you develop new stratergies to meet the goal
- enabaling you to monitor how well you are doing
What is concurrent feeback?
Feedback given at the time of performance
What is terminal feedback?
Feedback given at the end of a game or performance
What is extrinsic feedback?
Feedback from someone els
What is intrinsic feedback?
Feedback that comes from the performer
What is quantitative data?
Measurable data
Massed practice
Where the skill is practiced until it is learned
What is distributed practised?
Where the skill is practiced over several sessions or with rest breaks
What is qualitive data?
Data that is related to people’s feelings

What is fixed practise?
Where the skill is pracised over and over again until it is perfected(free shot in basketball)
What is variable practise?
Where the skill is pracised in different situations(essential for open skills)
What are the reasons for doing mental rehersal?
- reduces anxiety
- builds confidence
- improves concentration
- helps you overcome problems
- improves resultsx
What is visual guidence?
Can be given in may different ways : e.g
- coach demonstrates the skill
- high level demonstrates the skill
- video footage of a basketball player
What is verbal guidence?
Can be helpful as long it is clear, it cam be difficult to understand verbal guidence especially if its a complex skill
What is mnaual and mechanical guidence?
-when the coach is in contact with the learner as they perform the skill
(E.g in gymnastics the coach can help the learner do a seat drop)
What is the difference between manual qnd mechanical guidence?
Manual guidence: physically manipulating the bpdy of a learner
Mechanical: use of equipment in order to wupport the learner and shapw the skill
