What are the 5 functions of the skeletal system?
A
- Protection of vital organs- Important in sport to stay safe where protecting organs
- Muscle attachment- Muscles in sport need strong points to attach to
- Joints for movement- Joints allow the body to make a variety of movements
- Strong calcium and phosphorus- Stored in the bones, these minerals are vital for developing and maintaining the strong and healthy bones needed for exercise
- Red and white blood cell production- When the oxygen content drops, or the number of red blood cells goes down, your bone marrow makes more red blood cells; if you have an infection, it makes more white blood cells
