What is the Soft Tissue Injury (joint injury)?
Joints are where two or more bones meet. They are particulary prone injury because movement outside of their normal range. They can tear or overstretched tendons, ligaments, muscles and cartilage
What is a Sprain?
A sprain is a damaged ligament. One of the most common sprains in sport is a twisted or overstretched ankle
What is a Strain?
A strain is a twist, tear or overstretched muscle or tendon. Commonly in the back and the hamstring
What is a Torn Cartilage?
Cartilage is a firm elastic substance which lines adjoining bones. It absorbs the impact on the bones while reducing the friction during sports/activity.
What is a Fracture?
A fracture is a broken or a cracked bone.
Types: stress fractures, compound fractures, in closed, simple fractures
What is a Dislocations?
A dislocation is when a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position
What is an Abrasion?
Abrasion or grazes can be caused by friction of the skin against a roungh surface e.g. concrete playground or artificial pitches
What are the 5 ways to prevent injuries?
- Using the correct principles of training
- Playing to the rules and competition
- Protective equipment / clothing
- Checking equipment and facilities
- Warming up and also cooling down

Avoiding overtraining and over use injuries

Rules help to ensure player safety
What is an example of protective equipment and clothing?
Don’t wear clothing that might injure an opponent
What is an example of checking equipment and facilities?
Make sure the equipment is in good condition and that the facilities are safe and secure
What is an example of warming up and cooling down?
Increase blood flow and stretch muscles then gradually reduce the level activity
