What are open skills?
Where the situation is always changing in a game. Players continuously adapt.
What are closed skills?
Takes place in a predictable environment where players know exactly what to do next.
Definition of massed practise
Skills are practised until learnt without taking a break
Definition of distributed practise
Skill is practised over several sessions
What is visual guidance?
Someone teaching a person by doing it themselves
Positives and negatives of verbal guidance
Harder for the player to learn however the coach can explain it in further detail
Positives and negatives of visual guidance
Easier than verbal for the player to learn however if recorded the player cannot ask questions
Definition of feedback
Information received before, during or after a performance
What does SMART mean?
Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound
What is Intrinsic feedback?
Feedback coming from the performer themselves
What is extrinsic feedback?
Feedback coming from an outside source
What is concurrent feedback?
Feedback is given at the time of the performance
What is terminal feedback?
End of the performance feedback
What is mental preparation?
Getting into the right mindset by practising during training
What is imagery?
Mental or physical preparation in which the performer imagines or visualises themselves being successful in their performance.
How does imagery help?
A performer can maintain a positive attitude, stay calm and eliminate distractions
