Soc 18- Aerobic, Anaerobic Exercise And Energy Sources Flashcards
What is Glucose?
A major source of energy for most cells in the body
What is aerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen
What is anaerobic respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen
What is aerobic exercise?
working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e.g. long-distance events.
What is lactic acid?
a colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity.
Definition of a cramp
painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue.
What are the two type of carbohdrates and what do they do?
. Complex carbohydrates- slow releasing, long lasting energy. An example of this is rice.
. Simple carbohydrates- quick fix of energy. An example of this is eating a banana at half time.
Equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose -> energy + lactic acid
What is the equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water + energy
What do carbohydrates break down into?
They are broken down into glucose or glycogen
Where does leftover glucose go to?
Glucose is stored in the liver then distributed through the blood.
When you eat fats what do they turn into?
Fatty acids
Where does emergy come from
Energy comes from food, mostly from fats and carbohydrates
