Soc 16- Structure Of The Blood Vessels Flashcards
What is the function of arteries?
Take oxygenated blood away grom the heart.
Function of the pulmary artery
Carries blood from the heart to the lungs
Function of the veins
Carries deoxygented blood to the heart
Function of pulmary vein
Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart
Function of capillaries
One cell thick, carry oxygenated blood and nutrients to the muscle and carry deoxygented blood into the veins to get rid of waste product
Do veins have high or low pressure?
Low pressure
Do arteries have high or low pressure?
High pressure
What does the vena cava do?
Brings deoxygenated blood from the body
After the vena cava where does the blood go?
Right atrium
What is the valve called and where does the blood go after the right atrium?
Tricspid valve, right ventricle
Where does the blood leave from the right ventricle?
Semilunar valve
What is the use of the pulmary artery and pulmonary vein
Pulmonary artery takes the deoxygenated blood to the lungs
Pulmonary vein takes the oxygented blood back into the heart
Where does the blood go after the pulmonary vein?
Left atrium
Where does the blood go after the left atrium
Through the biscuspid valve into the left ventricle
Where does the blood leave the heart?
Through the aorta
What is the blood is made up of?
Red and white blood cells, plasma and platelets
First phase of the heart pumping blood
Systotic phase where the blood pumps from the citria to the ventricle
Second phase of blood pumping
Diastolic phase where the blood rests and refills with blood.
Function of plasma?
Takes oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and protein to parts of the body that need it.
What are platelets?
Tiny fragments that clump together to help clot blood.
Function of red blood cells
Carry oxygen around the body
Function of white blood cells
Apart of the defence system that produce antibodies to fight against infection and disease
Definition of antibody
Chemical that destroys a pathogen
Definition of pathogen
An agent that causes disease
What is leukocyte
White blood cells
What is Anaemia?
A condition where there is a lack of red blood cells
What is erythrocyte?
Red blood cells
What is serotonin?
Hormones that trigger the clotting progress
