Open skill
Always changing, affected by the environment
Eg dribbling past a defender
Closed skill
Not affected by the environment, self paced
Eg Penalty kick
Basic skill
Little info to process, few decisions to make
Eg passing
Complex skill
Lots of info to process, quick decisions
Eg stepover
Low skill
Not complecated and simple, subroutines can be practised seperately then intergrated into the whole skill
Eg free throw- easy to break down
High skill
Complex and requires large amounts of attention, subroutines that are difficult to breakdown
Eg a summersault
Practise- Massed
Practising until you get it, intense, hardly any breaks
Eg for fit and motivated athletes
Practise- distributed
Practised over several sessions, plenty of rest breaks
Eg normally for players with lower ability
Guidance- Visual
Skills that can be broken down into parts, effective in early parts of training and helps the performer visualise the skill
Guidance- verbal
Good for advanced performers, usually provided during a performance
- telling someone what to do
Guidance-manual
Can be used for all abilities, , helps them gain a kinaesthetic (sense) movement
Eg physically moving the performer
Feedback- intrinsic
Telling yourself the right or wrong decision, how the performer has felt how they have performed the skill.
Eg begginers don’t know what to do
Feedback-extrinsic
From coach
-more advanced athletes will benefit from this
Feedback- concurrent
During the game
-begginers helping them throughout
Feedback-Terminal
Feedback after or before a game
