Soc 13 Flashcards
What are the 4 types of bones
Long bones - generate movement (leavers)/ strength
Short bones - weight-bearing
Irregular - protection/ generate movement
Flat bones - protect vital organs/ muscle attachment
Flexion
bending movement that
Joints that provide it
Shoulder, hip, elbow
decreases the angle between body parts
Extension
straightening movement that Shoulder, hip increases the angle between body parts
Adduction
movement that pulls towards Shoulder, hip the midline of the body
Abduction
movement that pulls away from the midline of the body
Rotation
movement around a single axis Shoulder, hip or pivot point
Circumduction
moving in a circular or conical shape
Dorsi flexion
bending or flexing the toes up, closer
Plantar flexion
extending or pointing the toes down, away from the shin
5 functions of skeletal system
-Protection of vital organs
-Muscle attachment
-joints for movement
-strong calcium
-red and white blood cell production
Ligaments
are elastic fbres that join one bone the risk of injuring your ligaments and to another, usually to hold things together and tendons by gradually stretching the joint. keep them stable. They keep your skeleton supported whilst allowing movement.
Tendons
- are non-elastic fibres that attach muscle to bone and help to move them. Tendons let you apply power and movement.
