What are the 7 elements in a balanced diet?

They are stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles and provide us with energy
2 types of carbohydrates
Simple- short burst of energy made of simple sugars (biscuits,fruit,cakes)
Complex- slow releasing energy (wholemeal pasta, brown rice)
Fats
Provide us with energy and works together with glycogen to help muscles work (cheese,nuts)
Protein
Repairs and builds muscle tissue. (Eggs, chicken)
Vitamins
Keeps body healthy and helps prevent disease
-good vision, healthy skin
Minerals
Main ones are
Iron- linked with haemoglobin, without it blood wouldn’t be able to carry oxygen,lack of it can lead to tiredness
Calcium-strong bones and teeth
Water
-Accounts for half of our bodyweight
-athletes need it to not get dehydrated
Fibre
Aids the digestive system
