Soc 20 - Lever Systems Flashcards
Fulcrum
The point around which a lever rotates
Load
The force that is a applied by the lever system
Effort
The force that’s applied by the user of the leaver system
Lever arm -
A rigid bar like a bone.
In what order are the sections of a second class lever (starting from the left)
Effort, load, fulcrum
When would we use a second class lever?
One example of when we would use a second class lever is when we pull our heels up just before we jump up in the air for a header.
Advantages of first class and 2nd class levers….
Stable
Strong
Increasing the length of the lever arm increases the mechanical advantage.
Disadvantaged of 1st and 2nd class lever
Slow limited flexibility
Advantage of a third class lever system….
Fast movement
Large range of motion
Increasing lenth decreased the mechanical advantage
Disadvantage of a 3rd class lever system….
The force applied must always exceed the load.
