Q

What are the five parts of the back called?

A
Cervical (7 bones)
Thoracic (12 bones)
Lumbar (5 bones)
Sacrum (5 bones, fused)
Coccyx (4 bones, fused)
17
Q

What are the 4 types of bones?

A

Long bones
Short bones
Irregular bones
Flat bones

18
Q

What are long bones?

A

They generate movement/strength. They do this by acting as levers for muscles. They are always longer than they are wide, so they don’t actually have to be big bones.

19
Q

What are short bones?

A

They are weight bearing bones and help with shock absorption. They are the same size, length and width. Only bones that come under this are your carpals and tarsals.

20
Q

What are irregular bones for?

A

They protect organs and generate movement. They usually have a specific function to protect a certain organ during contact sport.

21
Q

What do flat bones do?

A

Protect vital organs organ protection and have a good surface for muscle attachments.

22
Q

What is an example of a long bone?

A

Tibia, fibula, femur and phalanges.

23
Q

What is an example of a short bone?

A

Carpals and tarsals

24
Q

What is an example of a flat bone?

A

Ribs

25
Q

An example of an irregular bone….

A

Top two vertebrae, allow your head to turn and nod.

26
Q

What is a joint?

A

A joint is a place where two or more bones meet together.

They are important to movement and roatation. Different movement will come from different joints.
