Soc 16: The Structure Of Blood Vessels And Blood Distribution Flashcards
What is the cardiovascular system?
Formed by the blood, heart and blood vessels
What is the cardio-respiratory system:
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the muscles during oxygen.
What is vasodilation?
When veins swell up or dilate; widening of the internal diametre (lumen) of the blood vessels to allow increased blood flow.
What is vasoconstriction?
When veins shrink down, narrowing the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to decrease blood flow.
Why does your heart rate increase when we do sport?
So you can pump more blood which includes oxygen and nutrients such as glucose. Without these nutrients your body’s muscles will go into oxygen debt.
Why does your breathing rate increase when you work out.
This is so you can carry more oxygen to the muscles through your blood.
What is the cusp?
A triangular fold of flap of a heart valve
Pulmonary is….
Do to with the heart
What do veins do?
These are tubes that carry blood back to the heart
What are arteries?
A musculae tube that carries blood away from the heart
Vena cava
Large vein bringing deoxygenated blood into the heart
Venous is….
To do with the hearts
How many phases of the heat beat are there?
There are 2 different phases
What is the systolic phase?
The first phase of the heartbeat. When the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood from the chambers into the arteries.
What is the diastolic phase?
The phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and lets the chambers fill with blood.
