Soc 17 - Respiratory System Flashcards
What is the Vital Capacity?
The greatest amount of air that can be passed into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inspiration and expiration
What is Tidal volume?
Is the amount of air inspired and expired with each normal breath at rest during exercise.
What is respiration?
The movement of air particles from outside the body into the cells within tissues
Diaphram….
The primary muscle used in the process of inspiration or inhalation. A dome shaped sheet of muscle that seperates from the rest of the body cavity.
The trachea is…
The tube that takes air into the chest, also known as a windpipe
The bronchus is…
Tube that branches off the trachea which air passes from the trachea into the lungs
The bronchioles is…
Smaller branches that come off the bronchi
Alveoli are….
Tiny sacs in the lungs where gas exchange takes place
Gaseous exchange….
The delivery of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream and removal of carbon dioxide from the tissue.
What is oxygen debt….
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of physical activity to break down lactic acid.
What is the route of oxygen to the lungs?
The air passes through the trachea into one of the two branches called bronchi. Then from the bronchus to the brochiole. From the brochiole they pass into the alveoli for gaseous oxchange.
How does exercise impact the respiratory system?
It will improve the efficiency of the lungs ams allow for a better delivery of oxygen to the working muscles. Therefore the body will cope better during exercise.
CO2 will be removed more quickly
More alveoli become available for gaseous exchange.
What do you breathe in?
20% oxygen and 0.4% CO2
What do you breathe out?
16% oxygen and 4% carbon dioxide.
How many times do you breathe when resting?
You breathe roughly 21 times a minute when resting.
