Soc 14 The Muscular System Flashcards

1
Q

Voluntary muscles

A

You choose when to contract or relax them. All those muscles are attached to the skeleton via tendons. When contracted movement takes place

Q

Involuntary muscles

A

Are not under our control. They contract and relax automatically by the involuntary nervous system. They can be found in digestive organs, circulatory and urinary systems

Q

Cardiac muscle

A

Only found in wall of the heart and is made uo if interfaced fibres. The fibres can spread electronical signlas from the brain right through to he heart so that all the cells can contract together. This regulates your heart rate and means when you exercise your heart keeps pumping the right way

Q

The voluntary muscle system

A

The muscles in the body and the way they work together. Working with the skeletal system muscles contract and relax to rpoduce movement

Q

Tibialis anterior

A

Pulls the toes up towards the shin. Eg. Ski jumping

17
Q

Muscle fibres

A

Make up voluntary (skeletal) muscle; divided into type 1, type 2a and type 2x

18
Q

Type 1

A

Slow miscle fibres; suited to low intensity work eg. Marathon running

19
Q

Type 2a

A

Fast twitch muscle fibres used in anaerobic work can be trained to increase resistance to fatigue

20
Q

Type 2x

A

Fast twich miscle fubres used in anaerobic work fatigue quickly

21
Q

Myoglobin

A

A red pigment that transport oxygen to the muscles

22
Q

Antagonistic pair

A

Muscles that work together to create movement
