Soft tissue injury
Joints are where two or more bones meet. They are prone to injury when they move outside of normal range
Sprain
Damage to ligament. Often happen when streching too far past normal range of a joint but can be caused by falling or colliding with opponent
Strain
A twist, pull or tear of a muscle or tendon
Torn cartilage
Cartilage is a firm elastic substance whick lines adjoining bones. It absorbs impact during sports. Damge to cartilage often occurs due to wear and tear from long term overuse
Fracture
Borken or a cracked bone. 4 types of fracture: stress, compound, inclosed and simple
Stress fracture
Overuse injuries; happen as a result of fatigue
Compound fracture
Broken bone protudes through skin
In closed
The skin over the break is damaged
Simple fracture
Takes place with no displacement of the bone
Example of simplbe/closed fractures
Greenstick, transverse, ipacted, comminuted and oblique
Dislocations
A bone at joint forced out of normal position
Abrasions
Caused by friction of the skin against rough surface
Concussion
An injury caused by blow to the head
