Open skill
Where situation is always changing and player has to adapt to situation
Closed skill
Takes place in a stable, predictable environment and player knows exactly what to do
Basic skill
A skill the player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
Complex skill
A skill when a player needs complete attention and concentration
Low organisation skill
Clear, simple phases or parts when you can break phases down and practice them seperately
High organisation skill
Lot of complicated phases or parts which cannot be practiced seperately
Massed practice
When a skill is practiced until it is learnt without taking a break
Distributed practice
Where skill is practiced over several sessions with rest breaks
Fixed practice
When skill id practiced over and over again until perfected
Variable practice
Practicing skill in variety of different situations
Visual guidance
Where coach demonstrates it himself or uses video of world class athlete
Verbal guidance
Verbally explaining how to do a skill usually paired with visual guidance
Manual guidance
When the coach id in contact eith learner to help them get a ‘feel’ for the movement
Mechanical guidance
When there is a machine to help you
Intrinsic feedback
Comes from the performer themselves and how they feel they performed
