SLOP Flashcards
Where should SLOP procedures be authorized?
According to ICAO DOC 4444 “PANS ATM” strategic lateral offsets should only be authorised in en-route oceanic or remote continental airspace.
What offsets are allowed for SLOP operations?
1 or 2 nm right of airway center line
What aircraft capability is required to be allowed to do SLOP?
Automatic offset tracking capability
When can SLOP procedures not be used?
When parallel airways are less than 30 nm apart
Why do we use SLOP procedures?
To create a bit of randomness. As everyone is exactly on the center line, climbs or descents due to turbulence may pose a collision risk. By offsetting that risk is reduced.
Can also be used to avoid wake turbulence
Do we have to inform ATC when adopting SLOP procedures?
No not if we are in Non-radar/ADS airspace
What do you have to do before entering controlled airspace when you have adopted SLOP?
Obtain approval from ATC prior to entering
