PBN Flashcards
Define the terms RNAV, RNP and PBN
- RNAV: Method of navigation on any desired flight path within the coverage of ground based navigation aids or within the limits of GNSS or a combination of both.
- RNP: Is RNAV with on-board navigation monitoring and alerting
- PBN: Specifies that aircraft required navigation performance (RNP) and area navigation (RNAV) systems performance requirements be defined in terms of accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity, and functionality required for the proposed operations in the context of a particular airspace, when supported by the appropriate navigation infrastructure.
What does RNP-1 mean?
Means navigation specification requires that the aircraft meet an accuracy requirement of no more than 1 nm from the nominal track in all directions 95% of the time
What different RNAV specifications are there?
RNAV-10 Oceanic and remote areas
RNAV-5 En route continental and arrival
RNAV-2 En route continental and arrival
RNAV-1 En route continental, arrival and approach
What different RNP specifications are there?
RNP-10 Oceanic and remote areas. No need for monitoring and alerting capability. Similar to RNAV-10
RNP-4 Oceanic and remote areas
RNP-1 Arrival and Approach
RNP APCH 1 nm in Initial/Intermediate phase and 0,3 in final phase
RNP AR APCH 1-0,1 in initial/intermediate phase and 0,3-0,1 in final phase
What is special about an RNP AR APCH?
Have reduced vertical and lateral obstacle clearance Can use curved approaches RNP values down to 0,1 GPS is required to start the procedure VOR updating is prohibited Altimeters cross check within 100 ft "UNABLE RNP" means a go-around
What is required to enter RNP-4 airspace?
Two serviceable Independent Long Range systems (LRNS)
Voice com or CPDLC and ADS-C
LRNS=GNSS and INS
