MORA/MRA/ALTITUDES Flashcards
What is the safe distance around an airway with regards to obstacle clearance?
10 nm either side and 10 nm beyond reporting points
What is the obstacle clearance on the Jeppesen Charts?
1000 ft for elevations up to 5000 ft
2000 ft for elevations from 5001 ft and upwards
How is an MRA derived?
1000 ft clearance for elevations up to 5000 ft
2000 ft clearance for elevations over 5001 ft
What happens when winds are deflected around high terrain?
They tend to increase in speed which creates a local decrease in pressure which results in an error on the altimeter.
How do you adjust the Grid Mora on the Jeppesen FD Pro charts, to account for the wind speed effect?
Within 20nm of terrain with a max elevation exceeding 2000 ft
* 2000-8000ft = +500(0-30), +1000(31-50), +1500(51-70),
+2000(>70kts)
* Above 8000ft = +1000, +1500, +2000, +2500
How is the effects of increased windspeeds around high terrain accounted for on the CFP?
Within 20nm of terrain with a max elevation exceeding 2000 ft
* 2000-8000ft = +500(0-30), +1000(31-50), +1500(51-70),
+2000(>70kts)
* Above 8000ft = +1000, +1500, +2000, +2500
How is the MRA:s derived for the Paper Enroute Diversion Guides(EDG)?
0-5000ft elevation = 2500ft clearence
5001-8000ft = 3000ft clearence
Above 8000ft = 3500 ft clearence
How do you account for an increased wind speed on the Paper EDG charts?
Already includes correction up to 50 kts
51-70 kts = +500 ft
Above 70 kts = +1000 ft
What is the meaning of the CP:s on the EDG charts with regards to MRA:s?
For engine out: Aircraft can expect to maintain an altitude capability above the MRA. Driftdown procedure will clear terrain for both fly-on and return option.
For Depress: If it happens over a CP, flight above the MRA may not ensure sufficient oxygen to reach the ERA
Considers both O2 supply and terrain so therefore the CP:s can b different from each other
Define MSA?
Gives 1000 ft terrain clearance within 25nm from a reference point. It’s for emergency use and does’t always guarantee NAVAID reception.
Reference point might not be at the airport
What is the MSA for a GPS approach referenced to?
The Missed Approach Point
What is the MSA for an RNAV approach referenced to?
The Runway Waypoint (RWxx) for straight-in approaches
What data are the CP on the Diversion guides based upon?
MTOW and semi-annual weather statistics
How is MRA derived on the D-EDG charts?
1000 ft clearance for elevations up to 5000 ft
2000 ft clearance for elevations over 5001 ft
within 20nm of the track
How is the MRA:s corrected for wind on the D-EDG charts?
For elevations above 8000 ft:
0-50kts = +1500 ft
51-70kts = +2000 ft
Over 70kts = +2500 ft
