SKELETAL MUSCLE REFLEXES Flashcards
a specific response to a specific stimulus
reflex
this is a receptor that is stimulated by the stretch of a skeletal muscle fiber (extrafusal skeletal muscle)
muscle spindle (intrafusal skeletal muscle)
the elongated portion of the spindle running parallel to the nuclear bag, monitors the chain in length of the muscle fiber (static activity)
nuclear chain
the beginning of the I, fiber surrounding the nuclear bag and the nuclear chain
annulospiral
afferent nerve fibers specifically from the annulospiral of muscle spindle synapses on alpha motorneurons
type I fibers
the afferent fibers from the trailing ends of the muscle spindle monitor changes in muscle fiber length (static)
type II fibers
innervate the skeletal muscle fibers directly
alpha motorneuron
innervates the muscle spindle fiber directly, receives information from the descending pathways, regulates spindle sensitivity and muscle tonus
gamma motoneurons
