existing joint disease diabetes immunocompromised trauma sepsis or bacteremia

Sx of septic arthritis
A
fever, red, hot, swollen joints,
usually > 100,000 WBC in joint fluid

What labs to run on aspirations
A
gram stain, culture, cell count, crystals

tx for staph or strep
A
cefazolin plus vanco if there’s a MRSA risk

tx for gonorrhea
A
ceftriaxone

tx for e. coli or h. flu
A
ceftriaxone
