A
When sacs within the synovial tissue become inflammed

A
Usually, insidious onset and caused by repetitive motions

What should you be concerned with with an acute onset of bursitis
A
Trauma and infection
R/o septic bursitis

What is septic bursitis usually secondary to?
A
Trauma or cellulitis

What bursa is septic bursitis more likely to occur in
A
Prepatellar bursa

What species of bacteria is most commonly associated with septic bursitis
A
Staph aureus (80%) and strep

Tx of bursitis
A
If suspicious of infection, do an aspiration and run gram stain, cultures, and check for crystals (gout) Conservative tx (ice, compression, NSAIDs, modify activity, maybe steroid injection)
