Scabies - explanation
Parasitic infection where small mites burrow and lay eggs beneath the skin. Can last months but is easily treatable with over the counter cream.
Scabies - first-line treatment (product, how it works, how to use it and how long to see effects)
Permethrim cream (Lyclear), an insectiside.
Apply cream all over body (excl. head).
Ensure applied between toes and under nails.
Wash off 8 hours later.
Reapply if hands are washed.
Repeat 7 days later.

POM for <2 years
Scabies - symptomatic treatment (3)
Itching can continue for 2-4 weeks after treatment
Sedating antihistamine (piriton, chlorphenamine), for night time itch
Eurax cream (crotamiton) for itch relief
Hydrocortisone 1% once scabies are eradicated - 10+ and 7 days max
Scabies - lifestyle
Clean bedding/clohting/towels at 60+ degrees
Isolate items for 72 hours
For crusted: wash floors, sofa,chairs
Avoid hot baths (encourages burrowing)
Keep skin clean, cool and dry
Avoid close body contact
Can go to school/work after 1st treatment
