Haemorrhoids - explanation of diagnosis
Common condition where small lumps develop around the bottom area due to inflammation and straining when going to the toilet
Haemorrhoids - first-line treatment (product, how it works, how to use it)
If person is constipated, use constipation treatment
Paracetamol for pain (avoid NSAID and opioids) - 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, max 8 tablets in 24 hours
Germoloids cream - lidocaine, works as an anaesthetic to numb the area, apply at least twice daily after each bowel movement, max 4 times per day, max 7 days

Good hygiene - keep area dry an clean
Pat area rather than rub
Avoid holding in stools and straining
Reduce constipation by increasing fibre in diet (wholemeal and fresh fruit)
Reduce alcohol and caffeine to reduce constipation
Drink plenty of water - 2L per day

No improvement 7 days after treatment
Severe pain when going to toilet
