Root resorption Flashcards
What is root resorption?
The non bacterial destruction of the dental hard tissues due to the interaction of clastic cells
What initiates the resorption?
Damage to the surface of PDL, cementum and predentine causes stimulation of RANKL
What are the two types of root resorption?
- Internal and external
Two types of internal root resorption?
Inflammatory and replacement
4 types of external root resorption?
- Inflammatory
- Replacement
- Cervical
- Surface
2 radiographs to take for assessing root resorption?
- CBCT
- PA at two angles * 30 degrees*
2 common clinical findings for internal inflammatory root resorption?
- Can be unrestored
- Positive to sensibility testing
radiographic findings of internal root resorption?
- Centred in canal radiolucency that does not move with beam shift
Pathogensis of internal inflammatory resorption?
- Coronal pulp necrosis
Treatment for internal inflammatory resorption?
- Orthograde endodontics
Clinical findings of internal replacement root resorption?
- Unrestored crown
- Positive to sensibility testing
Radiographic finding of internal replacement root resorption?
Pulp obliteration
2 clinical findings of external surface resorption?
- Increased mobility
- Positive to sensibility testing
Radiographic finding of external surface resorption?
PDL intact
Which teeth in orthodontic treatment are mostly affected by root resorption?
The ones used for anchorage
