Rocuronium Class
• Non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent
• Cholinergic receptor antagonist
Rocuronium MOA
• Antagonizes acetylcholine at the motor end plate, producing skeletal muscle paralysis.
Rocuronium Indications
• Adjunct to provide skeletal muscle relaxation and facilitate tracheal intubation
Rocuronium Adult dose
• 0.6 – 1.2 mg/kg IV/IO
Rocuronium Contraindications
• Known hypersensitivity to rocuronium or other bromide-based medications
• Inability to control the airway or support ventilation with oxygen and positive pressure ventilations
• History of neuromuscular disease (myasthenia gravis, Guillen-Barre)
• Use caution in patients with history of heart or liver disease
Rocuronium Adverse effects
• Bronchospasm’s
• Respiratory depression
• Apnea
• Transient hypotension and hypertension
• Dose-related tachycardia
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Hiccups
• Itching
• Injection site edema
• Residual muscle weakness
Rocuronium Pediatric dose
• 0.6 – 1.2 mg/kg IV/IO
