A
- Selective beta-2 (β2 ) agonist, causes bronchial smooth muscle relaxation
- Inhibits mast cells mediator release

Albuterol Indications
A
- Treatment and prevention of bronchospasms
- Treatment of inhaled respiratory irritant agents

Albuterol Adult dose
A
- Bronchospasms: 2.5 to 5 mg via SVN with mouthpiece, mask, or in-line with BVM, CPAP or ventilator, repeat as needed in 20 min.

Albuterol Contraindications
A
- Known hypersensitivity
- Synergistic with other sympathomimetics
- Dysrhythmias, especially those caused by digitalis

Albuterol Adverse reactions
A
- CV: dysrhythmias, palpitations
- CNS: tremors, headaches, dizziness, nervousness
- GI: nausea & vomiting

Albuterol Pediatric dose
A
• < 20 kg: 2.5 mg via SVN with mouthpiece, mask, blow-by or in-line with BVM, repeat as needed in 20 min.
• ≥ 20 kg: 5 mg via SVN with mouthpiece, mask, blow-by or in-line with BVM, repeat as needed in 20 min.
