Nitro Class
A
- Nitrate vasodilator
- Antianginal

Nitro MOA
A
- Smooth muscle relaxant acting on vascular, uterine, bronchial, and intestinal smooth muscle.
- Decreases preload – increases workload of heart’s right-side by causing blood pooling in lower extremities.
- Decreases afterload – arterial vasodilation reduces vascular resistance and decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
- Coronary artery vasodilation increases blood flow to myocardium.

Nitro Indications
A
- Ischemic cardiac chest pain (Angina or MI)
- Congestive heart failure with pulmonary edema

Nitro Adult dose
A
- 0.4 mg SL tablet/spray, may repeat every 3-5 minutes up to 3 doses if systolic BP is greater than 90 mmHg

Nitro Contraindications
A
- Known hypersensitivity
- Hypotension (SBP < 90 mmHg)
- Hypovolemia
- Use of erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs in the last 24 hours.
- Suspected head bleed or increased intracranial pressure (ICP)

Nitro Adverse reactions
A
- Cardiovascular: hypotension, reflex tachycardia, bradycardia
- Neurological: Headache, dizziness, syncope
