• Narcotic analgesic
• Narcotic agonist
Fentanyl MOA
• Alleviates pain by depressing the central nervous system
• Depresses respiratory centers in the brainstem
• Decreases venous return to the heart
• Decreases preload
• Decreases afterload
Fentanyl Indications
• Pain management
Fentanyl Adult dose
• 25 to 50 mcg
• Maximum dosage 200 mcg
Fentanyl Contraindications
• Known hypersensitivity to the drug
• Head injury
• Decreased level of consciousness
• Respiratory depression
• Hemodynamically significant hypotension
Fentanyl Adverse effects
• Central nervous system depression
• Respiratory depression
• Respiratory arrest
• Hypotension
Fentanyl Pediatric dose
• 1.0 to 2.0 mcg/kg
• Maximum dosage 50 mcg
