- Anti-inflammatory

A
- Suppresses acute and chronic inflammation
- Potentiates smooth muscle relaxation by beta adrenergic agonists

Methylprednisolone Indications
A
- Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, asthma/reactive airway disease/bronchitis
- Adrenal insufficiency or long-term steroid dependence induced shock
- Burns potentially involving the airways.

Methylprednisolone Adult dose
A
• 2 mg/kg IV/IO slowly or IM (max dose 125 mg)

A
- Known hypersensitivity
- Severe untreated infections
- Pre-term infants

A
- Nausea & vomiting if given to fast

Methylprednisolone Pediatric dose
A
- Status asthmaticus, anaphylaxis, shock with history of adrenal insufficiency:
• Loading dose: 2 mg/kg IV/IO slowly or IM (max single dose 60 mg)
• Maintenance dose: 0.5mg/kg every 6 hours or 1 mg/kg every 12 hours (max total dose 120 mg in 24 hours)
