- Loop diuretic

Lasix MOA
A
- Inhibits electrolyte reabsorption in the ascending Loop of Henley.
- Promotes excretion of sodium, potassium, and chloride.
- Increased venous capacity and decreases afterload due to vasodilation.

Lasix Indications
A
- Pulmonary edema, secondary to renal failure
- Congestive heart failure

Lasix Adult dose
A
- IV Lasix: 0.5 – 1 mg/kg IV/IO slow (over 1 to 2 minutes); (max dose 40mg)
• if no response, double the second dose to 2 mg/kg IV/IO slow (over 1 to 2 minutes); (max dose 40mg) - PO Lasix: 2x patient’s normal daily dose, if no effects in 20 min. may repeat with 2x first dose

Lasix Contraindications
A
- Known hypersensitivity to Lasix or sulfa meds
- Inability to urinate (anuria)
- Hypovolemia
- Hypotension

Lasix Adverse reactions
A
- May exacerbate hypovolemia
- Hyperglycemia
- Hypokalemia
- May decrease the body’s response to vasopressors

- 1 mg/kg IV/IO slow (over 1 to 2 minutes); (max dose 40mg)
