Rhone - Boissan Flashcards
2014: Bonfils: Côtes du Rhône, “La Cuvée des Princes d’Orange”
La Cuvée des Princes d’Orange comes from 100% Grenache vines ranging in age from 45-50 years old. The vines are grown on 9ha in clay soil with some limestone and with gravelly patches on the terraced slopes. Grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed and undergo an eight to ten-day maceration without being crushed. Fermentation with ambient yeasts takes place in 150hl stainless steel. Daily délestage, as with many of Boissan’s cuvées, takes place. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in concrete vats and then six to eight additional months in oak. 14.2% Alc
2014: Boissan: Côtes du Rhone Villages Sablet, “Cuvee Clemence”
From vines ranging in age between 20-40 years planted on 4ha of sandy limestone soils. Hand-harvested separately, de-stemmed, spends two days in pre-fermentation cold soak, followed by spontaneous fermentation in 150hl stainless steel with ambient yeasts. Fined and filtered. 14% Alc
2014: Boissan: Gigondas, Vieilles Vignes
80% Grenache, 20% Syrah Grown in clay soil with limestone in the slopes and lots of gravel on the terraces, this wine comes from 50 year old vines of Grenache and Syrah totaling 6ha. The grapes are hand-harvested separately and crushed, then undergo a 2 day pre-fermentation cold soak. A traditional style of spontaneous fermentation follows in 150hl stainless steel tanks and lasts about 20 to 30 days with daily delestage. About 30% of the resulting wine is aged in 1 and 2-year old barrels for 6 to 12 months while the other 70% is aged in stainless steel vats. 14.5% Alc
2014: Boissan: Ventoux Rouge
From vines with an average age of 10-40 years, planted on 6ha of clay and sandy soils. The grapes are hand-harvested separately, de-stemmed, spend one day in pre-fermentation cold soak before spontaneous fermentation begins with ambient yeasts in 150hl stainless steel. Filtered. 13% Alc
