Respiratory System Flashcards
What are the three things between air and blood?
Surfactant, type one alveoli, epithelia from capillary
What type of cells are in the trachea?
Cilliated columnar
How do the two main types of olfactory epithelium work together?
Microvilli from supporting cells support cillia of olfactory bipolar cells. Supporting cells make protein to bind odor to bipolar cells
What glands wash away lingering odors?
Bowman’s, under the epithelium
What do swell bodies do?
Fill with blood, prevent dehydration of mucosa
What do bronchi and trachea have that the rest don’t?
Cartilage. Pseudostratified columnar epithelial
How can you tell the three types of bronchioles apart?
Proximal have goblet cells and simple columnar. Terminal have simple cuboidal and no goblet. Respiratory have simple cuboidal and some alveoli
What are type one alveolar cells?
Squamous, site of air exchange
What are type two alveolar cells?
Produce surfactant and are stem cells
What do fibroblasts in lung do?
Make leptin to stimulate type two alveolar cells
What happens in COPD?
Neutrophils dissolve elastin in the lungs
What factor causes construction in asthma?
IL13
What do Clara cells do?
Stem cells in bronchioles. Removes toxins, tryptase causes flu symptoms, up CC16 in lung damage
