Pituitary/Hypothalamus Flashcards
What are the two parts of the pituitary, what forms them, and what feeds them?
Adenohypophysis, from oral cavity, superior hypophyseal artery. Neurohypophysis, from brain, inferior hypophyseal artery.
In adenohypophysis, what are the basophils?
Gonadotrophs releasing FSH, LH. Thyrotrophs releasing TSH. Corticotrophs releasing ACTH
In adenohypophysis, what are acidophils?
Somatotrophs releasing GH. Lactotrophs releasing prolactin.
Is the adenohypophysis vascular with fenestrated capillaries?
Yes
What is the purpose of median eminence?
Release releasing hormones into superior plexus, then they leave through inferior plexus.
How does the neurohypophysis release hormones?
Neuron cell bodies secrete ADH and oxytocin as herring granules down axon.
Explain ultrashort, short, and long feedback loops?
Ultrashort is hypothalamus product, short is adenohypophysis product, long is gonad product
What do pituicytes do?
Impede release of herrings granules
