What does the liver do?
Make serum proteins, detoxify drugs with SER. Can regenerate from acute damage
What direction do blood, bile, and lymph flow in a liver lobule?
Blood toward the central vein, lymph and bile toward the portal triad
What are kupffer cells and where are they?
Macrophages in the sinusoids of the liver
What are stellate cells and where are they?
In the liver, store Vit A and fat and produce cirrhosis.
Where are the NK cells in the liver?
In the space of Disse
How much lymph is made in the liver?
Half
How does centrolubular necrosis work?
Arteries on outside of lobe, less oxygen towards center
How much blood in sinusoids is from veins?
3x more than artery
What are bile ducts lined with?
Simple cuboidal cells
What do enteroendocrine cells in gall bladder produce and what does that do?
CCK, stimulates contraction. Gall bladder has highly folded mucosa
In the exocrine pancreas, what are the two types of cells and what do they do?
Serous cells activated by CCK, make enzyme for every macromolecule. Centroacinar cells activated by secretin making bicarbonate
What are the three major salivary glands and what do they do?
Parotid, sublingual, submandibular. Make antibacterial and amylase. 1200ml fluid
How do you tell apart salivary glands?
Sublingual is all mucous glands, parotid all serous, submandibular both. Mucous are lighter
