When does the LH surge take place?
Day 14
How does estrogen affect the release of LH?
Inhibits before ten days, stimulates after

Prophase 1
Where are primordial follicles found?
Only in the cortex
What is the theca interna rich in?
Capillaries
What makes the zona pellucida, and what does it do?
Oocyte and granulosa cells. Prevents penetration by multiple sperm. Is glycoprotein
What are primordial follicles activated by?
BMP4, FGF, LIF, SCF
Layers of primary follicle from out to in?
Theca externa(capsule, no hormones), theca interna(capillaries here, hormones), BL, granulosa cells, zona pellucida, oocyte
FSH is regulated by what?LH?
Estrogen and progesterone. Only estrogen
What is the main function of progesterone?
Thickens endometrium and prevents beginning of new cycle
Which cells in corpus luteum secrete progesterone?
Granulosa cells
What happens to corpus luteum in pregnancy? Not?
Saved and enlarges. Eaten by macrophages
Explain PCOS?
Thick capsule forms around oocyte, no estrogen or progesterone, male characteristics.
